Tighmor, the housebuilding divison of Perth-based I& H Brown, has picked up an award for its Laidneskea steading development near Aberfeldy in Highland Perthshire.
Laidneskea, a development of five unique houses, four of which are converted from an original Category B steading with one innovative new build eco-property completing the project, was named as the Best Conversion at the Herald Property Awards 2008.
It’s the second major prize for Tighmor, which secured the top award in the Rural Homes category of the Homes for Scotland awards in 2006 for its Auchnaguie development near Dunkeld, another outstanding steading conversion.
Development MD of I&H Brown, Allan Miller, said: “We are thrilled to have won. Two of the houses were sold straight from plan and it’s little wonder when you consider the location and quality of workmanship and design. Laidneskea combines the look and feel of a traditional rural community with individuality, space and luxury features.
“The design from our conservation architects, Simpson & Brown is outstanding, retaining many original features in the steading homes with new materials such as natural stone and exposed hardwood timber being used to complement the original buildings.
“The new build eco house at the development has attracted much acclaim both from a design and innovation perspective as this house incorporates a special Scandinavian insulation system known as SIPS which will afford the occupants significantly reduced heating costs. It is also a very striking property with its blue-grey wood pannelling and slate roof, taking its design inspiration from traditional rural buildings found on farms.”
